Our two Maremma livestock guardian dogs came to Seven Arrows in the summer of 2012 to begin training to work with our goats and chickens. Without them, we would suffer great losses from predation. Just as we live here, so do a great number of hawks, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, possums, skunks and other hungry critters. Stevie and her sister Peach live with their charges, keeping them protected where fencing and sturdy housing may fail.
Maremmas deter these threats by patrolling the paddock and barking when a threat becomes visible. Once the threat is gone, the girls retreat to check on their critters to make sure everyone is safe. Good girls!
These hard working dogs are a bit shy around strangers, but with a proper introduction from the farmers and some tasty treats, they are just as about as noodley as they come!
